The Scoop
Song of the day: I go nowhere by dwin the stoic
Dearest gentle reader (if I don't begin my newsletter like this, how would you believe or know that I'm currently hooked to the bridgerton series hehe).
It's the beginning of a new week and I hope you enjoyed your weekend, well… I was indoors binging on the bridgerton series and munching on chinchin as well as falling asleep at intervals.
Well, It's a new month and I hope that the month showers us all with it's goodies ☺️.
On today's episode of shocking happenings…..
The month only just started today and I've been hit in the face by shock, here's what happened …
On my way to work this morning, the woman I sat beside in a tricycle tapped me and gave me a wad of money to count for her, I was momentarily shocked and my lagosian instincts suddenly kicked in but I maintained maximum composure, collected the money, counted it and gave it back to her.
I was shook to the marrow when I got down from the tricycle and I was thinking “what if I disappeared, or I got kidnapped or even arrested over this money”.
No matter what, i'll never undertake that kind of risk again.
Childlike joys…..
A lot of things bring out the inner joys in adults and it can even be the smallest of things, well mine is corn and pear.
It's that time of the year where make shift stands erupt at every major junction and street corners with hot coals in metal bowls below metal or wire meshes hoisting fresh corn cobs and pear by the side or coconuts in a metal or plastic bowl and a sweaty woman stationed behind with a plastic handfan in one hand to occasionally fan and bring the cool embers back to it's heated form and the other hand turning the corn cobs to properly cook on the other side and simultaneously using her mouth to attend to customers and haggle back and forth for a suitable price.
Damn, with the way I analyzed a corn stand above, you'd think that I've had enough experience operating a stand 😁, I deserve a literature prize for my analogy above don't you think?
Culture shocks but this time in words and their pronunciations.…….
One major issue bibliophiles share is the improper pronunciation of words and it's due to the fact that we pick up our words from books as well as we quickly go over them in a sentence because we are caught up in the plot….
As someone who reads and learns how to pronounce words through books, the one of my many pronunciation shocks that jumped at me is the pronunciation of viscount in bridgerton (which makes me believe that movies are also another medium of learning), I always pronounced viscount as /Vis/-/count/ when in fact the real pronunciation is /Vi/ /count/ the s is silent.
Join me for more English classes 😁
Getting my groove back………
On the issue of getting my groove back, whenever I read through my old articles and pieces, I'm amazed at my words and how I string then together, it's always beautiful.
I'm getting my groove back like the emperor did , I just referenced a cartoon “the emperor's new groove”, if you're a cartoon freak like me, you can go watch it and if you're not, please don't judge me, I'm a child at heart 😁).
School is about to resume and I do not look forward to it, I can't believe I've gotten academically lazy 🤦♀️

The corn stand paragraph got me👏👏👏😂🖤. And thanks for the recommendations🖤
